The ‘Likweli’ marks the second species discovered in the past 15 years around the Lomami River, in a remote and thickly forested part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A new species of monkey with distinctive orange lips and a deep roaring call has been identified in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The "Likweli" monkey, as it is referred to locally, or Colobus congoensis, is the fifth new monkey species discovered in Africa in the last 75 years.
